Motley Crue’s Vince Neil took to the stage at Vancouver’s PNE as part of the Summer Nights Concert Series.

ACDC’s “For those about to Rock” wrapped up the intro music before the 65 minute set kicked off with Vince Neil coming out singing “Dr Feelgood” and played through a good collection of Motley Crue hits with a notable exception of their cover of “Smokin’ in the Boys Room”.

Vince Neil had the crowd engaged with singing along and fist pumping to “head banging” while he ran around on stage

Zoltan Chacey’s  drum playing antics using feet on the top hat,  throwing up drum sticks and catching all in time and threw sticks out into the crowd while playing for a 5 foot high drum riser at the back of the stage … right down to using his drum stool to hit the cymbals to start off Girls Girls Girls and jumping off the amps beside the drums to hit that final note of the night.

After the first handful of songs running from side to side on stage, Vince Neil slowed it down a bit and showed off some custom guitars to join in playing with his bass and lead … from a “flaming” Ovation to skull laden Les Paul with him singing in front of the mic stand and the trio striking several poses that the phone filled crowd in the reserved section couldn’t get enough of, it was as slowed down as you’re going to get from a heavy metal set without going full on power ballad.

About a half hour into the set they all cleared the stage except for the lead guitarist Jeff Blando, who shred into a 2 minute solo.  Once he was done the bass player, Dana Strum and drummer Zoltan Chaney came back out to join Jeff to all flex their musical prowess with e, for a 5 minute extended instrumental Sabbath cover which lead into a heavy metal-ized version of Queen’s  “We Will Rock You”

Vince Neil came back out 13 minutes to Kickstart my heart.

At the end of a rather unique, albeit short night, the song that played while the crowd started exiting the venue was the original version of Frank Sinatra’s “Young at Heart”.

There’s more music still to come from this year’s Summer Nights Concert Series and Vancouver’s PNE, ranging from Smokey Robinson to Billy Idol and The Beach Boys … if you’re in the area and want to head down for the fun, get more information here www.pne.ca/summer-night-concerts/
