The Beach Boys honoured Vancouver by putting on a wonderful performance at the Pacific National Exhibition even to the point of including 3 songs at the end as an encore.

The Beach Boys formed in 1961 and have been going pretty steadily ever since. There were, of course, times where the band had issues and such, but they have remained there, in the public’s eye for a number of years. The fans have not forgotten them as it was clear with a sold out show. They preformed the ever favorites like Good Vibrations, Wouldn’t it be nice, and yes even Barbara Ann.

They paid tribute to Carl Wilson by having Christian Love ( Mike Love’s son) preform the song God only knows. They also made note of George Harrison ( from the Beatles) and Mike’s connection with him and sang some songs in memory of him with Here comes the Sun, and Hare Krishna, just to name a few. With these songs of course came the ever lovely cellphone light swing back and forth to the music. If we had been back at the start of this band, I’m sure they would have been lighters or candles for sure but the sentiment and love was still the same.

The band sang songs from the Pet Sounds albums along with the latest albums with songs like Summertime Blues and Rockaway Beach. The audience joined in fully, as most of them appeared to be some serious fans from that era.

A great time was had by all, including the random beach balls that were flying around the crowd popping up and down, almost in time with the music at certain moments. When listening to people in the crowd, many of them reminisced on how they remembered this song and exactly what they were doing at that time in their lives.

Not only have the Beach Boys made memories with the people here tonight, but they have made everlasting ones with those who grew up with them, no matter what era or generation.
