Hard Rock LIVE Ottawa hosted an evening that showcased two very different styles of Canadian rock, yet both acts proved exactly why they continue to command loyal audiences. From Bif Naked’s high-energy, personality-driven performance to The Tea Party’s dramatic and immersive musical journey, fans were treated to a memorable night of entertainment.
Bif Naked: Ready to Rock

Bif Naked may have only played a short set, but she made every minute count. Bounding around the stage with the energy of someone half her age, she looked anything but ready to slow down. As bassist Peter Karroll joked, Bif wasn’t getting out of school—she was getting out of her third marriage. Whatever the reason, one thing was clear: she was ready to rock.
Despite the abbreviated performance, she packed in six fan favourites. The set included Tango Shoes, Lucky, Let Down, Choking on the Truth, Spaceman, and I Love Myself Today. Before performing Let Down, Bif dedicated the song to the nurses who supported her through her battle with breast cancer, creating one of the evening’s more heartfelt moments.

Ottawa has always seemed to hold a special place in Bif Naked’s heart, and she performed like she was among old friends. Between songs she entertained the crowd with stories and personal observations, making the performance feel intimate despite the large venue. Her dance moves, infectious enthusiasm, and constant interaction kept the audience engaged from start to finish.
The set was short, sweet, and overflowing with energy. If there was one complaint, it was simply that the audience wanted more.
The Tea Party: A Theatrical Evening

While Bif Naked energized the crowd, The Tea Party transported them somewhere else entirely.
For anyone seeing the band for the first time, the experience was something of an eye-opener. The performance felt less like a traditional rock concert and more like a rock opera, where every song carried weight and atmosphere. Their often dark and textured sound seemed to flow continuously, drawing listeners deeper into the music and creating an almost trance-like experience. The Hard Rock LIVE faithful were more than ready for the ride.
The evening opened with Writing’s on the Wall, a recognizable favourite that immediately established the mood for the night. Jeff Martin’s unmistakable guitar tone and powerful vocals were as captivating as ever, proving why the band’s sound remains so distinctive decades after their formation in Windsor, Ontario.

Martin shared stories from the band’s early days, including memories of Windsor bars where beer would routinely fly through the air during Sun Going Down. “Don’t do that here,” he joked before launching into the song. The sliding guitar work and overlapping notes demonstrated once again why the track remains one of the band’s signature pieces.
As the show progressed, instruments became characters in the performance. A double-neck six- and twelve-string guitar emerged for Mantra, delivering exactly the expansive sound the song demanded. During Messenger, the band paid tribute to The Tragically Hip by weaving a snippet of Bobcaygeon into the performance. Later, Heaven included a respectful nod to INXS with a segment of Never Tear Us Apart.
One of the night’s standout moments came during Ocean at the End. The emotional depth of the song was amplified as bassist Stuart Chatwood moved to keyboards, while Jeff Martin delivered a stunning guitar solo that brought the crowd to its feet.

The surprises continued with Save Me. Mid-song, Martin reached behind him, grabbed a violin bow, and channelled a bit of Jimmy Page as he drew it across the strings of his guitar. The effect was dramatic and mesmerizing, adding another theatrical layer to an already impressive show.
The main set concluded with Temptation, sending fans into a singalong that felt like the perfect ending. Of course, it wasn’t quite over. The encore featured an acoustic rendition of Winter Solstice before the band closed the night with Sister Awake, seasoning the performance with touches of Paint It Black and Heroes along the way.
