Portsmouth Hampshire, UK’s own melodic death extreme metal band Bloodshot Dawn is made it’s first Canadian cross country tour in support of the release of their latest full length album Reanimation with a stop at Mavericks in Ottawa on April 19/18.

Mavericks was ready for Bloodshot Dawn and their Reanimation Canada Tour when they arrived.  The room was dark, packed and you could see individual pockets of people watching intently as the band was on stage preparing for the show.  This was a crowd that knew what they were in for…or did they? They describe themselves as “ferocious extreme metal” band that delivers “blistering live shows”.  I described them as “melt your face off” metal and I loved every moment of it.  These guys took the stage and from the first song to the last played with passion and conviction.  You could feel the emotion coming from the stage hovering over the crowd. There’s a little something for everyone in this show : technical riffs and guitar playing from both guitars and bass to melodies that sore through at you.

I sometimes find that when I leave a show I am focused on a few songs or moments that stood out for me.  That was not the case with these guys.  With plenty of lead guitar riffs and melodies, and a bass player that is absolutely brutal to the point of perfection, each song stood on its own merits.  The vocals felt raw with emotion and complimented the songs as did the drummer with a hypnotic breath taking technique.  I found the show to be very interactive, entertaining and as good as or better than other bands I’ve seen in this genre.  Bloodshot Dawn came with purpose and intent – they packed songs with killer riffs that pack a punch, screaming guitar solos that tested just how far back you could lean with your air guitar and grooves that will surely leave you a fan for life.

My verdict:  If your thing is heavy melodic death metal whose members push their instruments to their absolute limits delivering perfection then I’d highly recommend these guys.  Don’t miss them when then land in your area.
