Ottawa based The Riot Police brought their show to The 27 Club in Downtown Ottawa last Friday night.  This group is no stranger to the music scene having been around since 2007 performing at many venues in Toronto, Kingston and at Ottawa’s own Bluesfest and Folkfest. Current The Riot Police members Alex Boyd, Riley Hawkins, Max Gibson and Taylor Harris all have an impressive musical background ranging from choirs to musical degree. Their sound is fresh, the vocals were reliably-solid and they were masters of their instrument. Guitar riffs and solos scattered throughout the set with members swapping instruments occasionally to mix it up. Once considered a cover band these guys have grown and matured now writing and performing original material.

They showcased their soon to be released 3rd EP “Movement” to an awaiting crowd. Their latest single San Francisco, which they referred to as their dreamers song had a catchy beat that could be appreciated by a wide age group. There alternative pop rock sound which leans more towards the pop side is no surprise at all considering that some of their influences are The Killers, Kings of Leon and Coldplay. The Riot Police did not disappoint the crowd as they performed many of their older songs as well. The audience definitely savoured the performance and cheered them on after each song. This multi-talented group is worth seeing. If you don’t get the opportunity to see them head to itunes or Spotify for their new single or their new EP out on March 23/18.

To summarize and categorize these guys, once could say their music and shows are a genuine escape for any fan looking to spend a couple of hours with unpretentious pop/rock. Can’t wait to see what they do next.
