Do you like to act and live the life of a pirate? If you said yes then Alestorm is the band for you.  They will have you smashing back pints and saying Yarr and Ye in no time. Ottawa’s Brass Monkey was host to the lads from Scotland recently and safe to say there’s a shiet tonne of pirates in Ottawa.

The band’s signature giant rubber duckie adorned the stage as the air was filled with chants of Alestorm! Alestorm! Alestorm!  Opening with “Keelhauled” off of the bands 2008 release ‘Black Sails at Midnight’ it took all of half a second for the crowd to go mental and start singing along.

The legendary Brass Monkey was filled with a mixture of old and young souls, some dressed for the occasion in their best pirate gear, all were having more fun then a dead man walking the plank.

Did I mention they like to drink beer?   They can also shred the stage with tracks like “Magnetic North” that crosses a sing-along ballad with face-melting death metal.  “1741”  a Celtic like pop song played in the key of pirate metal. The toe-tapping, headbanging, fist-pounding, chorus chanting  ” Black Sails at Midnight”.  The equally killer banger “Captain Morgans Revenge”. And then there’s their version of Taio Cruz’s “Hangover”. Which was a full-on crowd-pleaser

From the time they dropped the anchor the band didn’t stop the onslaught and pillaging. With a continued mixture of drinking, pop, and heavy metal songs the crowd was entertained all night long, and I’m sure they would have stayed if they could have til the wee hours of the morning.  Or at least until the band drank all the beer and sailed off back to sea.
