One on One with JP Maurice

Vancouver musician JP Maurice is excited to announce the release of the video for his latest single ‘GO’. The uplifting and playful video was filmed this summer on the streets of East Vancouver under the direction of Johnny Jansen. The premiere of the new video comes on the heels of the announcement that JP Maurice will be a featured artist on the inaugural season of CTV’s new series The Launch which premieres tonight.

‘GO’ is a track from JP Maurice’s cinematic pop-noir EP Girls which was released last January. The EP is the follow-up to his 2013 full-length album, The Arborist, and continues in the same vein as his previous work with a mix of both dark and light pop gems. The latest single ‘GO’ is a track that is definitely on the lighter side of things, with its catchy lyrics designed to make you feel like the weight of the world has been lifted from your shoulders.

Kelly Findlay had a chance to chat with JP last month in Vancouver. Watch the interview below.

JP will be releasing the follow-up to Girls, the full-length album Boys, in early 2018 with plans to tour North America and Europe in support of the new music. More details to be released soon.

As far back as I can remember, Music has always been a huge part of my life. From dancing around my living room as a kid to my parents music to finding my own artists and bands that I loved. I think Corey Hart was my first obsession and my very first concert. His voice, sound and attitude was different. A few years later, I entered a contest and actually won to meet Corey and attend his show in Toronto. But sadly this would never happen as Corey got sick and had to cancel his concert. I did receive a great merch package that I still have to this day. Then came Matchbox Twenty. Wow, their music, lyrics, Rob Thomas’ voice and his obvious good looks drew me in. Their songs got me through a lot of hard times and brought a lot of joy to my like. I went to many of their concerts and Rob’s solo concerts. When I found out they were doing a Matchbox Twenty Cruise in 2013, I knew I had to be there at any cost and I went. 2500 Matchbox loving fans and as a bonus we got the GooGoo Dolls as well. What an experience. Meeting all the guys was truly a highlight of my life. This was a magical cruise. I met so many people that I am friends with to this day. We travel to different cities to meet up for concerts. My music obsession took a turn in 2014 when I was introduced to Country Music. Never would I have thought I would be a huge Country fan. I came onto the scene when Country Music was evolving into a different sound. Florida Georgia Line’s song Cruise was my first song I really liked. Then came the opportunity to see Dallas Smith doing a fundraiser appearance. I had no idea who Dallas was as a country singer let alone the lead singer of Default which I found out much later. So a new obsession and wasn’t it fitting that he would be joining the Florida Georgia Line Cruise. Yes I had to be on that boat and I was. Before the cruise in late 2014, I followed Dallas from concert to concert. Attending the Boys of Fall fundraiser which started another obsession, Chad Brownlee. The FGL cruise was amazing. So crazing. About 10 different artists/bands like Thomas Rhett, Tyler Farr, Cole Swindell, Cadillac Three, Dallas of course and so many more. Again about 2500 Country Music Fans and a close knit group that truly care about each other and stay in touch with. I started to volunteer for the BC Country Music Association which opened up a whole new world for me. I have met so many amazing people, artists. I have been able to watch some up-and-comers go from the bar circuit to hearing their songs on the radio to seeing them on the big stage. So incredible and I am so honored to have been able to spend personal time with them. I currently volunteer for many media companies doing concert & artist reviews and interviews. My Country Music life came full circle this past summer when I go to interview Dallas Smith and Chad Brownlee. Starting out as just another fan who appreciated them and their music to actually doing an interview with them. It was definitely a dream come true. I love all music and have had the opportunity to see and review so many concerts. It’s an amazing feeling when someone sends me their music to listen to and get my opinion. It’s kind of crazy because I’m just a fan of music and I love getting the word out to the social media world. I am so grateful to everyone who has had a part in my music experience and I look forward to all new opportunities that come my way. Music is Life.
