Show business is nothing new to, 21 year old, MacKenzie Porter who grew up on a cattle and bison ranch near Medicine Hat,Alberta.  At the ripe age of four she started studying piano, violin and voice.  She’s spent time on the road touring with a family band as well as with her brother, whose name you might recognize as 2004 Canadian Idol Winner, Kalan Porter.  But she doesn’t just stop there.  MacKenzie is also an aspiring actress having numerous film and television roles under her belt including the role of Courtney in the Television series “Dinosapien”.

MacKenzie’s music is best described as a cross between the Dixie Chicks and Leanne Rimes mixed with the violin sounds of groups like Leahy and Natalie MacMaster.  Here’s a sample of what you can expect from MacKenzie, the song is called “These Black Boots” by her band The Black Boots:

There is little doubt that it won’t be long before MacKenzie is household name, at least here in Canada.  At the moment she has two movies in post production and an album in the works which she hopes will be out sometime in 2012.

MacKenzie has what it takes to be a superstar and 2011 could be the year that gets her foot in the door, first opening for Kenny Chesney in front of 17,000 people at the Calgary Stampede and tomorrow she will open the Capital Hoedown in Ottawa.  One thing that’s certain is that if she can make Taylor Swift’s hit “Mean” sound this good her career is on the verge of lift off:

You can catch MacKenzie at the Capital Hoedown in Ottawa on August 11, 2011 at 5:00pm.
