Earlier this month Lindi Ortega brought her unique country sound to Neat Coffee Shop Coffee in Burnstown, Ontario in support of her new album Liberty for an intimate evening of music and stories.

On May 6/18 Lindi Ortega played a sold out show in this quiet village at Neat Coffee Shop for a crowd that drew people from surrounding areas like Ottawa, Carleton Place and Renfrew.

Opening the show was Toronto native Jeremie Albino. Warming up the crowd with his country blue’s sound. Albino enchanted the audience by pouring his heart out with soulful lyrics while playing his guitar. Between song he would explain the background to each song – often getting the audience laughing at the stories. Unique, confident and a strong voice. He truly had the crowd warmed up for Ortega.

This highly anticipated show by Ortega was a long awaited treat for her fans. Not too long ago she was considering throwing in the towel on her music career. But this award winning roots artist and two time Juno nominee has made some changes in both her professional and personal life and has gotten back on her horse so to speak and is entertaining fans with her lastest EP “Liberty”. Ortega, a Toronto native and a recent resident of Nashville, is no stranger to the country music scene. She has been around for many years trying to make it in a male dominated industry.

Ortega has been writing her own songs since 17 yrs old. Her unique lyrics and voice are known to tell stories of death, despair, resurrection and of hope. Her show is reminiscent of listening to an old western movie. This is what stands her out amongst the rest of the country artists . Ortega’s voice has been described has a mix of Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Johnny Cash. Ortega has also helped out fellow artist like Brandon Flowers from “The Killers” as back up singer and performed on shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Whether you are there for the story telling or just there to listen to a good foot tapping music Ortega definitely captures your attention and you will not soon forget this performance.

On this night Ortega didn’t disappoint and in fact held the audience’s attention the entire show and left them on a high note. Her unique voice is very hypnoticand captures your attention and mesmerizes the listener. Take a moment and listen to her other EP out there. She has my vote and I look forward to hearing more of her in the future.
