Ottawa’s own Bitter North hit The Rainbow Bistro Saturday night with Po Lazarus and Flowers For Daniel delivering yet another stellar performance in a long line of performances.

Bitter North has been steadily gaining a dedicated following over the last few years with their own style of indie alt-rock in the music scene and after tonight’s performance I’m confident that following just grew again.  This is the third their show Bitter North in as many weeks playing originals and two new songs that just entered the set list – Three Devils and Take Me Away. With each new song and performance they seem to get more confident and stronger. Singer Hannah Fraser shows once again how she can take her very rich passionate vocals through a variety of ranges with confidence all the while letting off the impression of calm control.

The songwriting is rather creative producing some interesting and melodic guitar lines in their songs. Each song is unique and has that something that draws you in.  I Don’t Mind is one of those songs which has a guitar hook that I find grabs and pulls you in as soon as it starts.  A very smooth and groovy felling to it – raw charm that turns heads. Their latest EP Vacation Days is the latest offering from these guys.  There’s something for everyone on it.

Bitter North was in good company tonight with Flowers for Daniel opening and headliners from Montreal, QC Po Lazarus closing the night out.

Flower for Daniel are a Kitchener-based indie/rock band that blends melodic builds with heavy hooks to produce some outstanding material. A unique style, solid down-right good vocals and an energetic entertaining front-man made for a stellar performance. If that wasn’t enough there’s a cello player to boot.  Nice touch both visually and musically.

Po Lazarus took the stage to close the night out.  This indie rock band was phenomenal, capturing the attention of all in attendance with their incredible abilities. It’s difficult not to get caught up in their vibe and the strong performance they gave us tonight. Fans of The Sheepdogs will enjoy these guys and will sure add these songs to there playlists.

My verdict. It was a memorable evening, in which the music, ambiance, and performances all came together in a moving way to make this night a success.
