The final work week before the holidays has come to its end so what better way to kick off the holidays then to attend Amos the Transparent’s annual holiday show?! The band has been fairly under the radar since their 2014 release of ‘This Cold Escape’ but have made it a tradition to play a holiday show, and this year they returned to the Blacksheep Inn in Wakefield Quebec to celebrate the season with about 200 of their closest friends and fans.

Opening for Amos was Mountain Eyes. The smooth melodic tones of his voice, reminded me of Bon Iver and mesmerized the crowd. It was a great way to start the evening in the intimate setting of the Blacksheep Inn. Mountain Eyes has been impressing audience since the release of is EP in 2014.

Amos started their night off with a couple of crowd favourites ‘Sure as the Weather’ and ‘Cold Escape’, then surprised everyone with some new tunes. Announcing a new album coming out 2018, they admitted they don’t have a name for it yet but did decide to debut some of the new music. The new songs sure didn’t disappoint. The songs are full of their signature harmonies and layered sound we’ve all grown to love. My personal favourite was one called ‘I Saw a Ghost’.

The talent in this band runs deep with their fine tuned writing skills to the multitude of instruments played. Chandler took a moment at the end of ‘Trouble Maker’ to show off some of that talent by encouraging guitarist, Daniel Hay, to finish the song with a solo. Admittedly Hay didn’t think the solo would be appreciated by the audience and he couldn’t have been more wrong.

There were, of course a couple of Christmas songs played also. Seems like the band is a fan of the movie Home Alone because both song selections seemed to have come from that movie! Nonetheless it’s always exciting to hear how Amos adds their own flare to tradition Christmas songs!

It’s easy to see why this show sells out year after year. Not that I wanna wish the year away, but I’m looking forward to the release of the new album and can’t wait for next year’s holiday show! For more details visit www.amosthetransparent.com and purchase their music on iTunes!
