The Abrams, brothers John and James, took Ottawa by storm when they appeared at the Overflow Brewing Co midweek. This stop was part of their Running On Memories tour that saw them perform shows in their home province of Ontario

Touring since their pre-teen years, these twenty something brothers, as 4th generation touring musicians, certainly have performing in their DNA. Their parents, who share their amazing sons with the world, were in attendance as well as other relatives. The song “Still In Love” was dedicated to the family matriarch who recently passed away after reaching the age of 100. The family sang with her not long before her passing. John also mentioned their maternal grandparents who helped buy their first fiddles and listened patiently as they learned to play them.

The audience, in this intimate venue, saw and heard what The Abrams are all about; wizard like fiddling and guitar playing accented by sibling harmonies par excellence. A film crew was in attendance as four songs were being taped for future airings by The Abrams and their record label Warner Music Canada. Keep your eye out for these. Maybe you will see the Overflow Brewing Co banner or some familiar faces in the audience. Who knows?

At the beginning of the evening the radio station contest winners were treated to a friendly, laid back meet and greet where photos were taken against the backdrop of the brewing tanks. But, everyone in attendance had the opportunity to meet the brothers after the show as they stayed until all had received their autograph and photo.

The Abrams, John and James, are the full package, the real deal. They are at the top of their craft, have energy to burn on stage, and yet are down home and mindful of those who have supported them along the way.

Opening for The Abrams was Perth native Jon Van Wingerden performing a half hour acoustic solo set. Jon’s voice had the early evening crowd perk up their ears and pay attention.  We heard one comment that they were reminded of an early Johnny Reid’s voice.  Now if that isn’t a compliment I don’t know what is!  Jon, with his trio, will appear again at the Overflow Brewing Co on Kaladar Ave on January 11th if you are in the area and wish to check him out.
