Formed in 1999, Tantric is fronted by Hugo Ferreira, who delivers an emotional performance with a natural ease that comes with experience and confidence. His tone is smooth, his presence reassuring – even when rocking out to high-energy songs. My connection with the band dates back to my college days when I first heard “Breakdown” on a Rock FM station in 2001. It was the song that put them on the map, followed by hits like “I Don’t Care” and “Mourning.”

Celebrating 25 years of their self-titled debut album, which is certified Gold, Tantric’s concert at SOHO Live in NYC was an electrifying success, though the crowd was not as large as I expected. They played the entire album in its entirety, each track a nostalgic journey. Hugo Ferreira’s powerful vocals soared, and the band’s tight performance made the show unforgettable. The guitar riffs were heavy and exhilarating, and the drums pounded with a relentless intensity, resonating through the hearts of everyone present.

The band’s music still holds up today, and their performance was a testament to their enduring talent and dedication. The small crowd loved every minute of it, swaying and cheering in unison, including me.
