St. October, the unique female-fronted dark metal band from southeastern Iowa, resumed their live performances with a show at the Village Theater, Davenport, this Friday. Formed in 2016, St. October have been writing melodic gothic metal with female vocals, saturated hurricane riffs, and energetic drums.  In 2018, the band released an EP, “Possessions,” a few songs from which got some local radio air.  Recently, however, St. October underwent some changes in direction and composition.  The band welcomed a new bassist, Keith Barber, and added keys to the music layers and growl to vocalist Monica Wilson’s technique repertoire.

With most of the recording completed, St. October’s new album will be out in the early spring of 2020, taking on a darker, catchier, progressive direction and deeper dimensions lyric-wise. “Not quite extreme but not mainstream-radio-friendly,” the album will touch on inner turmoil and mental health.  Multiple personalities disorder, detachment, social isolation are topics that many people can find themselves relating to.  When darkness hits you, how will you handle it?

The band is planning to do more live shows in promotion of the upcoming album and are sure to continue to gain popularity in the local and, hopefully, international metal scene.
