Sing Out for CHEO takes place on Friday night at the Lone Star Loft, off of St. Laurent Ave in Ottawa. This year we decided to open up the stage to some fresh talent through an emerging artist competition. For the past few months we and a number of other judges have narrowed the field down to 3. The following three finalists will perform on the stage at the Lone Star Loft and one of them will be chosen to win the grand prize.

Gabrielle is 11 and loves to sing. She first began to sing for fun and was often told by her family that she had a great voice.

For Christmas 2017, she was gifted a gift certificate by her biggest fans (thank you grandparents) to record a professional video at Sing House Studios, a local music school. She went in not knowing what to expect and came out passionate more than ever.

Shortly after Gabrielle began bi-weekly lessons, which led her to take the stage at many spotlight student opportunities. When her mom told her about the Sing Out for CHEO fundraiser she got really excited. “I know I’m young, but I do want my voice to bring good. Me and my three siblings have all been and taken really good care of at CHEO. I would be so pleased to give back.”

Morgan MacIntyre

Morgan MacIntyre has also been chosen a member of the three (3) finalists for the Sing Out for CHEO Artist Competition. She is 18 years old and CHEO has been a major part of her life after she was diagnosed with what the medical community refers to as an “ultra-rare” disease. CHEO became a second home to her and the staff have become family.

Morgan is an 18-year-old student in grade 12 at Osgoode Township High School. Always having a passion for music, Morgan decided to focus on school in hopes to go to post-secondary school for biotechnology. She still practices her music in her spare time and even took the lead in the 2018 Children’s Miracle Network ‘Stand by Our Champions’ music video. Morgan hopes to continue with her love of music in her future as well as her passion for science and agriculture.

While her passion for music has been on the back burner while she focuses on school, she always enjoys playing cover songs for friends and family.

Don’t miss Morgan live, on stage, Friday, February 22nd at the Lone Star Loft (St. Laurent).

Khloe Bertrand is a 14 year old singer from Haley Station, Ontario. She enjoys playing ringette, singing, guitar, piano and ukulele. Khloe has been singing for as long as she can remember, but has only been taking vocal lessons for the past 8 years. She’s also taken guitar and piano lessons.

Khloe has competed in multiple competitions all around Ontario. Every summer for the past 3 years, she went up to Nipissing for the Northern Ontario Open Country Singing Contest. In her first year she was in the 12 and under karaoke category and came first place. The second year she competed in the 18 and under category and also came first, meaning the third year she couldn’t reenter the 18 and under so she had to compete in the open division (any age). Out of 13 girls Khloe came 5th place. Last year she made top 6 in Ottawa idol, and in 2018 year she made top 12.

“CHEO hasn’t helped me personally, but it has helped a girl I played ringette against. she was diagnosed with leukaemia. My inspiration in music comes from my parents. I’d like to thank them for always believing in me and for letting me do what I love.”
