The Hella Mega Tour rolled into Columbus Ohio to perform for thousands at The Historic Crew Stadium on August 17th. The tour, originally slated for 2020, was cancelled along with the rest of the live music industry in 2020 due to the pandemic. Many fans had the dazed look of disbelief that they were, in fact, at a large scale concert.

Warming up the incoming crowd with a quick set was the ska punk band The Interrupters from Los Angeles California. Then rock band Weezer, also from LA, took the stage around 6:30pm with attendees still trickling in.

Lead vocalist Rivers Cuomo sported a mustache and mullet hair cut while wearing a studded leather jacket, giving off a big time 1980’s vibe. They played fan favorites “El Scorcho” “Say It Ain’t So” and “Buddy Holly.”

Next up was Fall Out Boy, as if the stadium couldn’t get any hotter, they blasted plenty of pyro around the stage.

Patrick Stump wasted no time getting the crowd worked up, belting out plenty of pop/punk hits like “Sugar We’re Goin Down,” and “Century.” Pete Wentz also made his way around with his flame-throwing bass, getting up towards the crowd who cheered him on.

Before Green Day arrived on stage, “Bohemian Rhapsody” was blasted through the stadium and the crowd got animated in anticipation, singing along loudly, hands in the air.

When Green Day finally hit the stage with “American Idiot” the crowd was ready and went wild!

Billie Joe Armstong, bassist Mike Dirnt and  drummer Tre Cool blasted through 21 songs including, “Pollyanna,” “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends” (stadium lit up with cell phone lights swaying side to side), and ending with “Good Riddance” and lots of fireworks.  “O-H” from Billie Joe, “I-O” roared the crowd…BOOM.
