On Thursday July 12, Blue Rodeo came to Ottawa to perform for the 12th time at RBC Bluesfest. Before the show I had the opportunity to talk to Jim Cuddy about his solo projects, family and how Thursday night’s show almost didn’t happen and the future of Blue Rodeo was in jeopardy due to an illness in the band.

I have been a fan of Blue Rodeo for all of their 34 years. I honestly can’t think of many other bands that have had such a prominent place in the soundtrack of my life. I’ve been lucky to have met Jim Cuddy of the band numerous times over those 34 years but, until yesterday, never had the chance to do a formal sit down interview with him or anyone else in the band. Interestingly enough is that although an interview with Blue Rodeo has evaded me over the years. A few years ago I managed to sit down and chat with, Jim’s son, Devin about his own music career so being able to chat with Jim Cuddy is kind of a full circle moment for me.

Here’s the interview below, huge thanks to Mary Jelley from Warner Music Canada for setting it up for us and, again, thanks to Jim Cuddy for taking the time.

Jim continues to tour in support of his latest album Constellation, you can see his dates here. Blue Rodeo also has a number of dates scheduled across Canada this summer, you can see those dates here.
