Award-Winning Jasmine Cain, a Sturgis SD native, now living in Nashville, has been entertaining rock fans for many years by touring tirelessly. (According to her website, she did 170 shows in 2019.) So when the Pandemic hit as she was releasing her 7th album Seven, Jasmine didn’t take a wait and see approach. She immediately went out and purchased equipment to allow for streaming of content and promotion of the album until she would be able to tour again.

Seven went on to win the Josie Award for Album of the Year. Jasmine also took home the Vocalist of the Year Award for 2020.  She rose to the occasion like a true professional despite last year’s massive shutdown of the live music industry as a whole.

The unexpected is a constant for touring musicians and the show on Friday night was no exception. The band rolled into Shakers Public House on the west side of Columbus Ohio after dealing with 2 flat tires on the way. Then there were stage set-up delays and sound issues. Jasmine didn’t let it stop her from giving a great performance for the Bike Night crowd on an outdoor stage. With all restrictions in Ohio lifted just a few days before, the crowd was in excellent spirits and ready to rock all night no matter what!

Midway through the show, however, the stage abruptly went dark and the sound cut out completely. Drummer Philip Kelly, unaffected, launched into a rousing drum solo while Jasmine sat on the edge of the stage surrounded by a group of front row fans. She encouraged them to raise their drinks for a toast. They laughed, chatted and took selfies with her as if this was a planned break in the set!

When the power was restored, they continued on, ending the night with metal heavy “Bodies” and encore “Burn Out.”

Jasmine promises she’ll be back in Ohio soon. In the meantime, keep an eye on Jasmine Cain’s social media sites for a show near you.

Opening Act AEIR is a Columbus Ohio rock band that formed last year and have already created a lot of buzz locally. The guys played an energetic set and remained professional throughout the show despite the sound issues. Lead singer Lucas Esterline said they were just grateful to be able to get out in front of a crowd and took it all in stride. The crowd definitely appreciated their efforts!

AEIR has been hard at work in the recording studio and have just finished a music video for the song “Smoke Em If You Got Em.” Their debut album will be released soon and we can’t wait to check it out!
