British post-punk IDLES performed at The Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday night (presented by CD92.9). The crowd was jammed in tight ready to riot, mosh and get sweaty.

IDLES Joe Talbot (vocals), Lee Kierman (guitar), Mark Bowen (guitar), Adam Devonshire (bass) and Jon Beavis (drums) took to the stage under dim moody lighting to open the show with “Colossus.” Joe paced around in circles, one fist clenched as he belted out the lyrics, the song building up into a frenzy that got the crowd seriously worked up!

The band powered through an amazing 90 minute set-list, focusing on their 3rd studio album Ultra Mono released last year,  that included “Mr Motivator,” “Grounds,” “Anxiety,” “War” and “Reigns.” At Times, the crowd overpowered Joe Talbot’s vocals as they sang and screamed the lyrics with fist pumping action.

Early on both Mark Bowen and Lee Kierman got into the crowd – Mark crowd surfed while singing into a mic and Lee played guitar while standing on the pit rail. The band also performed fan favorites “Divide & Conquer,” “I’m” Scum,”Never Fight A Man With A Perm,” closing the night with “Rottweiler.” Idles are set to release their 4th studio album Crawler Nov 12th!

Psychedelic art-punk band Gustaf from New York opened the show. Formed in 2018, Gustaf recently released their debut album Audio Drag For Ego Slobs. Several songs, notably “Mine” and “Book,” musically channel the B-52s but with a more punk-edge to the vocals.

Vocalist Lydia Gammill definitely brought that punk edge. She also entertained the crowd by bouncing around on stage, striking wild poses with exaggerated expressions of exasperation, shock and anger. The rest of the band is comprised of Tarra Thiessen (vocals/percussion), Tine Hill (bass), Vram Kherlopian (vocals/guitar) and Melissa Lucciola (drums).
