Tens of thousands of people have invaded small town Alberta for one of the provinces biggest music events of the year.

The day started off with a songwriter’s workshop featuring 3 of the 4 artists scheduled for the official Kick Off Party.  Edmonton’s Prairie States have triple duty at this year’s festival … 2 songwriters workshops and opening set for the official Kickoff Party.

The Manitoba trio of brothers, also making their Big Valley Jamboree debut with the workshop followed by the kickoff party came into the day as unknowns compared to the other artists on the lineup but they wasted no time making fans.  The performed an acoustic version of their new song, Single Problem … they’re the highest ranking indie artist on the Canadian country charts this year.

Charlie Major needs no introduction to country fans, especially those in the West.  As this year’s inductee to the Canadian Country Music HAll of Fame, he’s had a lot hits under his belt, so it’s no surprise whatever song he would perform as part of the songwriter’s session, the crowd was sure to sing along … but it’s a testament to how revered you are in the industry when all the other songwriters just unexpectedly start accompanying you!

Brothers Osborne came in from Nashville like the massive storm that swept through Alberta the night before … custom and wild light show and music that seemed to go on all night but end too soon.

Luckily they spared us the howling wind that threw things around the campsites and knocked over the porta potties.  The only things that fell over during their set was the odd person who miscalculated their ability to retain alcohol … a few phones were cursed and thrown down as well because the battery died from trying to video the entire night … and unfortunately they missed the catwalking antics the Brothers Osborne played up during their set.
