Barenaked Ladies: A Tour of Force

On August 21st, 2022, the beloved and critically acclaimed band Barenaked Ladies (BNL) closed out the much-needed summer festival Together Again Outdoor Concert Series. Touring on their newest album, “Detour De Force” released in 2021, it finally allowed BNL to showcase their newest songs to an eagerly awaiting crowd.

Opening their set with the Bruce Cockburn song “Lovers in a Dangerous Time”, BNL had an energetic stage presence. Everyone in the audience was singing along to each song they played. Their bassist, Jim Creeggan was smiling and laughing and engaging with his bandmates as well as the crowd. His happiness was infectious.

I have been waiting to see BNL for a long time, so this was a great concert. Their third song of the set and my favourite tune by them was “Pinch Me”. I was expecting to not hear it during the first three songs up close in the pit. It has been quite some time since the Barenaked Ladies had performed a show in Edmonton specifically, and Ed Robertson was quick to point that out (November 2017, so definitely overdue!)

The Together Again Outdoor Concert Series is a music festival that happens at the Northlands Park Racetrack in Edmonton Alberta. Other artists this year included: Sam Roberts Band, 54-40, Meghan Patrick, Paul Brandt, Kim Mitchell, Burton Cummings, Lee Aaron, Chilliwack, and Barenaked Ladies.
