The first thing I noticed when the band came on stage was Arctic Monkeys lead singer, Alex Turner, new hair style. Of all the many hairstyles Alex Turner has worn, I don’t think any have ever been as extreme as his latest. Alex shaved off his slicked-back “rico suave” do, bringing crew cut season to Toronto. A great choice given how hot it has been recently.

The band gives us an immediate taste of what we can expect for the evening as the set begins with ‘Four Out Of Five’. What followed was a stream of classics from across their discography: ‘Brainstorm’, ‘Star treatment’ ‘Do Me a Favor’, etc. For a full list see below.

The crowd interaction was kept to a minimum, in order to preserve the flow of the show. This was a special show and the band new it, being their first show in Canada since 2014, and their last show in their 2018 North American Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino tour.

As the music came to an end with the ending chords of ‘Arabella’ and the band departed the stage, the screams demanding their return to the stage were deafening. Reappearing, Turner sat behind the piano before an enthusiastic crowd to play ‘Star Treatment’. Once that was over, and the crowd asked for more, we were treated to ‘Snap out of It’ before a rowdy rendition of the crowd-pleaser “R U Mine”. By now It was clear to everyone assembled, that they had just been in the presence and witnessed of one of music’s greatest fixtures.

I can’t wait for Arctic Monkeys to be back. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long this time around. For more dates on the Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino tour and the Arctic Monkeys visit them online at www.arcticmonkeys.com
