Walking into the Babylon to see a shirt that read “One Woman Riot” hanging at the merch table I knew I was in for a night well spent. With it being International Women’s Day, I could think of no better way to spend it then supporting women in music doing their creative thing. All the way from Australia, Amy Shark made her Ottawa debut alongside LA’s Milck Thursday night at Babylon Night Club. This show turned out to be STRONG, on many levels.

Milck was up first, the LA based artist brought sheer power to her songs. Strength not only in her voice, but lyrically, her songs flooded the venue. As quieter songs began the crowd would hush, and as louder songs were going the crowd would dance and sing along. Well known for her song (I Can’t Keep) Quiet taking off at the Women’s March last year in Washington D.C. her lyrics provide clear intent and inspiration for the movement globally.

Amy Shark took to the stage with the same force, having full engagement of everyone in the room the stage was hers and everyone was ready. Sharing stories and background to each of her songs, she opened up about the inspiration and passion behind each of the lyrics.

Creating waves as she makes her way through her international tour, Amy has made stops in Toronto, Ottawa and soon Montreal before heading to NYC. Amy Shark is definitely an artist to keep your eye on, an Apple #UpNext artist, her hit songs Adore and Weekends have earned her appearances with Apple Music and soon to be Jimmy Fallon (March 13) which will only push the young artists career even further. Let me stress again. This show was STRONG, and if you haven’t already put on some of their music, I recommend you do so now.
