On April 7, 2026, Maynard James Keenan brought PUSCIFER’s “Normal Isn’t” Tour to Terminal 5 in New York City. I remember my first show there in 2016, which was Megadeth, my favorite band. Earlier that day, I was at the gym listening to PUSCIFER, TOOL, and A Perfect Circle. I’ve been a fan of Maynard since high school, especially of A Perfect Circle, but I only recently started connecting with PUSCIFER. This tour was something I didn’t want to miss.

It was a breezy afternoon near the Hudson River, and even though the venue was not far from the city, fans were lined up to see PUSCIFER. Before the show began, they announced no cellphone recordings, and the stage presence was very dramatic. Maynard and Carina Round performed “Thrust” from high up on the stage followed with “Self Evident. With dimmed lights and a deep purple glow, Maynard’s silhouette was striking. He interacted with the crowd more than usual, putting more emotion into his singing with PUSCIFER than with TOOL or APC. There were 8 to 10 concert photographers, and I believe I was the only newcomer in the lineup. Most of them were seasoned veterans. We were only allowed to shoot for the first two songs, which made it quite rushed. The stage was so high that I could barely see their feet.

At rock concerts, you often expect to see people headbanging, but at a PUSCIFER show, it felt different. The audience was completely captivated by the music, which sounded rich and full, with each song getting better than the last. By the end of the night, I and everyone else were blown away. Maynard’s live performance is something special that recordings can’t capture, and I truly appreciate it.

I think PUSCIFER just keeps improving. I love “Normal Isn’t” from start to finish; the music, the gothic vibe, and the lyrics resonate with me and make me feel less alone. If you enjoy Maynard’s music or prog rock, you should definitely check it out.
