It was one of the coldest nights we’ve had in Toronto all year, and ticket goers still managed to brace the weather for the sold-out Passenger show at REBEL.

The lineup outside REBEL went as far as the eye can see and everyone was eager to get inside, to not just escape the bitterness of the Canadian weather, but to enjoy a night of extraordinary talent lead by some amazing musicians from around the world.

The Paper Kites took to the stage and didn’t disappoint on Wednesday night. The five-piece folk band were as tight as ever up on the REBEL stage. The bands signature sound was at the forefront which was lead by Sam Bentley’s finger style guitar technique, a frequent characteristic, along with Lacy’s and his vocals together, and the band’s haunting harmonies.

Hailing from Melbourne, having the same lineup since their humble beginnings in 2010 and having two studio albums and two EP’s under their belts. The band has been busy venturing around the world perfecting their craft and on stage show. It’s rare that a band will surpass their studio sound, but seeing Paper Kites live brings their music to a whole new level.

Their performance Wednesday night made fans out of the audience, regardless if the audience ever heard their name before.

The atmosphere at REBEL was mellow and electric all at the same time. The Paper Kites did a stellar job at capturing the audience and preparing them for an unforgettable evening.

The buzz in the air never subsided, even when The Paper Kites left the stage. Electricity quickly turned into anticipation as the audience waited eagerly for the band Passenger.

The moment Mike Rosenberg hit the stage, the venue exploded. There was no time wasted as Passenger dove right into the music and had the crowd’s attention from the get go. The English born front man knew exactly how to work the crowd that night. His audience interaction was nothing short of impressive as he sang right along with them.

Playing a wide variety of his music catalog, Passenger also rocked the crowd with new material from his number one album “Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea”. The audience took to the new music very well and showed their appreciation with deafening cheers and smiles all around.

It was all smiles between Passenger and the audience at REBEL. Through each song that was reciprocated back, it was Passenger’s hit single “Let Her Go” that had the crowd explode into an all out sing a long. Passenger gave the audience one hell of a show that will be remembered for a long time. It was worth embracing the cold to see this show.
