Country music fans in Halifax came together at the Scotiabank Centre to see Fan Favorite Johnny Reid. I left plenty early to get parking but as approached the downtown core area I came face on with traffic backed with fans going to the show.
Travelling with Johnny Reid was opening act JJ Shiplett as well as special guest appearance by Cape Breton’s own Natalie MacMaster. Shiplett was a great opening act and offered a different sound to the show in contrast to Johnny Reid but complimentary as well. Shiplett has a true country sound. I overhead fans saying when Shiplett finished his set “this show is awesome” and Reid had not even taken the stage yet.
Johnny Reid came out for his set on fire. I have never witnessed a full show where the artist moved as much as Reid with such intensity. Johnny Reid in fact moved so much during his show his fit bit went off. Reid said “did you hear that, it was my fit bit”.
During his opening song he pulled a fan up from the front row to sing and dance with him. This same fan later made another appearance singing most of Reid’s song. A local Elementary school choir performed during his show as well with one little girl stealing a solo performance.
Reid is quite humorous as well and often stopped to interact with the fans. It was easy to see why fans vote Reid for fan favorite of the year time and time again.
But let’s not deny Reid is an extremely talented singer as well as a performer. Reid’s vocal are so smooth and intense it leaves goose bumps on your arms. Fan, Val Parsons, was quoted saying “Every person at the JOHNNY REID concert felt part of the performance………a truly amazing entertainer!”
