You may remember the name Emma Peckford if you were following our coverage of last year’s “She’s The One” competition at RBC Royal Bank Bluesfest.  Emma won last summer’s competition and yesterday she celebrated the release of the official music video for her début single “Just Breathe“.

Emma, a singer-songwriter from Corner Brook, Newfoundland, who was 15 years old at the time of her win, put in a stunning performance at last year’s ‘fest to edge out some very heady challengers. She began singing at the age of four and started playing guitar when she was seven.

The recording project for “Just Breathe” is the result of the “SHE’S THE ONE” prize package that Emma won, which included a whirl-wind, career-building trip to Los Angeles to work with renowned music producer Barrett Yeretsian, who is best known for his work with (Christina Perri, Jenn Bostic, and the Television series Glee). They recorded the song at the legendary Sunset Sound Recording Studio and Emma took part in a star makeover photo-shoot and music tutorial prior to filming the Hollywood-style music video, courtesy of Popmania! In addition to the opportunity of a lifetime, Emma also walked away with a guitar from Daisy Rock Girl Guitars.

“SHE’S THE ONE” is a cross-Canada talent search for the best in emerging Canadian female music talent. With the help of Corus Entertainment, RBC Bluesfest organizers are looking to discover promising young female singers. “The competition gives young ladies from across Canada a chance to shine. The overall objective is to find that one special young artist with an incredible voice backed up by a moving live performance,” says RBC Bluesfest ‘SHE’S THE ONE’ coordinator Nick Descarie. ”We definitely found that in past winners and especially last year with Emma Peckford.”

“We’re very aware that there’s an incredible amount of undiscovered female vocal talent in Canada,” says Bluesfest’s executive and artistic director, Mark Monahan. “Each year the SHE’S THE ONE competition proves that to be true. It’s heartening to see this positive progress in Emma’s career!”

The 2015 RBC Bluesfest “SHE’S THE ONE” competition will soon be open for submissions to young Canadian female singers, ages 13 to 21. More information is available on the RBC Bluesfest SHE’S THE ONE webpage: http://ottawabluesfest.ca/shes-the-one/.
